January favourites

Finally it´s the last day of January of 2013, is it me or has it been a long one? I was in the UK celebrating my birthday at the beginning of the month and that seems like ages ago! Well I´ve got a few things of my wedding planner list sorted, I think I´m on track! Next month I´ll have to sort out the photographer and flower arrangements. Here´s my lists of goodies, mainly things I brought back from the UK. The Batiste Dry Shampoo is a god-send, a spritz at the roots and you´ve got fluffy volumne again, I hope dry shampoos take off here in Spain soon. Meanwhile I need this big can to last me! I bought the No 7 Primer after deliberating over the pricier Smashbox one, has anyone tried it? Anyway this one is pretty good, my face feels smooth and no shiny-break outs! I will post about primers soon, I think they´re a wedding make up essential, and I want to find the perfect one! The MAC lipstick in Lovelorn is a great every-day subtle pink colour, I picked it up at the duty free at the airport and I´m glad I did. Every girl deserves to treat herself to a new MAC lipstick now and again. The white can is a facial spritz with oats from Spanish supermarket Mercadona (Deliplus range) with lovely and refreshing, I use it to set make up or give my face a bit of a hydrating boost as it has a reviving effect. 

Por fin llegamos al final de Enero, soy yo o ¿ha sido un mes super largo? Estuve en UK al principio de mes celebrando mi cumple y me parece hace un montón ya! Me alegro que he hecho unas de las cosas en mi lista de preparativos de boda, me falta contratar el fotografo y organizar las flores. Aquí son unos tesoros del mes, la mayoría han venido conmigo desde Inglaterra en la maleta! La lata grande es Batiste Dry Shampoo, es genial para dar el pelo un poco de volumen y vida en las raíces  Espero que el champú en seco se haga mas popular aquí  mientras tanto tengo que hacer que dure la lata! Me compré el prebase de No7 después de pensar en comprarme el mas caro, lo de Smashbox, alguien lo ha probado? Esta muy bien, mi cara se siente lisa y sin brillos. Voy a hacer un post sobre prebases pronto, los considero un esencial para maquillaje de boda y quiero comprarme lo mejor! El labial es MAC Lovelorn, lo que he cogido en el aeropuerto en duty free. Es muy lindo y rosita, muy natural, lo pongo mucho. El otro producto es de Agua de Avene de Mercadona (Deliplus), me gusta por que es refrescante, sirve para fijar la maquillaje o calmar e hidratar la piel.

Lush has a brilliant half price sale after Christmas so my sister and I went a bit mad, buying their gorgeous shower gels (who doesn´t love Snow Fairy? It´s like showering in fruit pastilles!) and the Buche de Noel face cleanser with rushed almonds, cranberries, and touch of brandy, yum! The bad things are that these products are part of the Christmas range and are being sold off at 50% off until next Christmas. I actually like Twlight better than the ubiquitous Snow Fairy because I love the rich lavendery smell and the essential oils is contains, perfect for a relaxing shower before bed. 

Lush tiene una rebajas excelente después del navidad, así que mi hermana y yo aprovechamos, compré una selección de sus geles de ducha (hombre, ¿quien no le gusta Snow Fairy? Es como ducharse con chucherías) y de Tronco de Navidad limpiadora facial con almendras molidas, arándanos rojos y un toque de brandy, que rico! La verdad me gusta mas Crepúsculo mas de Snow Fairy porque me encanta el olor de lavanda y sus aceites esenciales, es perfecto para las duchas al final del día antes de ir la cama.

Review: Lush Catastrophe Cosmetic face mask

When a new Lush store opened up in Seville city centre, I was very excited as I´ve always been a fan. I remember when I was littled visiting their first store in Poole, Dorset and buying some bath bombs. A lot of people can´t stand the smell in the shop and it´s true that it wafts it´s way down the street, but I love it- Lush´s distinctive, sweet smell. They are a very ethical company and use recycled packing so the last time I went I gave in five empty black pots and received a free fresh mask, I´d used the Sacred Truth and Brazened Honey before and liked both- really hidrating, so this time I chose Catastrophe Cosmetic, the violet coloured one stuffed full of blueberries!

Cuando se abrió una tienda Lush en el centro de Sevilla me emocionó porque siempre he sido fan de ellos!! Recuerdo de haber visitado su primera tienda en Poole, Dorset de niña cuando  me compraron unas bombas de baño. Mucha gente no aguanta el olor de la tienda, la verdad que infiltra todo la calle, pero a mi me gusta- es muy distinto y dulce. Es una empresa ética y el packaging es reciclado. La ultima vez que fui entregué los cinco botes negros para recibir gratis una mascarilla fresca para la cara. Antes usaba Miel por La Cara y La Verdad Sagrada, los dos super suave y me dejo la piel muy hidratada, esta vez escogí anti-Catastrophe, el de color morado lleno de arándanos.

When someones says anti-oxidants the first thing that comes into my head are blueberries. They just sound so appealing, all that goodness sinking into your skin and brightening your complexion, and protecting against free radicals whatever they are. First of all this mask smells gorgeous, do you remember those parma violet sweets? Well the mask smells exactly like them and it´s the same purpley lilac colour too. As the calamine starts to work it deep cleans and starts to feel tighter, whilst the irish moss gel, rose, camomile and almond oil calm and soothe the skin. I think rather than a deep hydrating boost like the other masks I mentioned, this mask thoroughly cleans your pores and soothes irritated or stressed-out skin. Your skin feels lovely and smooth when you wash it off, just pat a good anti-oxidant serum over your skin when its dry. Great for a freebie, thanks Lush! Has anyone tried their new valentine´s day products yet?

Cuando alguien menciona los anti-oxidantes siempre pienso en los arándanos  Suenan tan atractivo, yo imagino todo lo bueno siendo absorbido por la piel, dando luz a la cara y protegiendo contra los misteriosos radicales libres, sea lo que sean. Primero es que huele divino, había chucherías en mi país que se llamaba Parma Violets, pues huelen igual de rico y son del mismo color. Cuando lo aplica y la calamina pone en efecto empieza a limpiar profundamente mientras que  el aceite de almendras y algas, camomila y aceite de naranja la calman y suavizan  Creo que mas que una mascarilla super hidratante como los que he mencionado antes, esta mascarilla trabaja limpiando y calmando la piel irritada o estresada. Cuando se lo quita con agua mi siento la piel muy lisa, solo falta aplicar un suero de anti-oxidantes después. Gracias Lush! ¿Alguien has probado sus nuevos productos de san valentín?

Zara Home spring arrivals

Oops, I seem to have missed out on the Zara Home sale this year, all thats left in our local shop are a few coloured plates and strange picture frames. However as always my eyes are drawn to the new collection, if you like buying things to decorate your house it´s like a candy shop! I love Zara Home´s insistence on elegance, and classic, feminine decor, everthing looks so crisp and white. I´m not a big fan of the prices though, a wee bit steep, so normally I attack the sales twice a year! This spring their new collection has a lot of coral which is one of my weaknesses, it´s a warm and flattering colour in clothes and make up, why not candles and bed sheets too?  There´s also something special I´ve seen that I have in mind, I´ll post about it soon...

Oops, parece que he perdido mi turno en las rebajas de Zara Home este enero, lo que queda en la tienda mas cercana son solo unos platos de colores y marcos que no me hacen mucha gracia. Como siempre mis ojos van a la nueva temporada. Si te gusta la decoración de hogar es como entrar en una tienda de golosinas, que bonito! Me encanta el estilo tan marcado de Zara Home, es clásico con colores suaves, femenino y elegante. Eso si pero no soy muy fan de sus precios, son un poquito caro en general, por eso ataco cuando son las rebajas! Esta primavera su nueva temporada tiene mucho del color coral, unos de mis favoritos, sea como sea, en ropa, maquillaje, ¿por que no en sabanas y velas también? También hay algo en especial que he visto de que voy a hacer un post pronto...

Review: Lilylolo mineral foundation

As I live in Spain and it gets pretty hot here I was getting tired of heavy, pore-clogging liquid foundations so I read up mineral make up and decided to give it a go to see if it was worth the hype. There are lots of benefits in opting for a mineral base- it´s got staying power, has natural SPF coverage, it´s oil-free, paraben-free, great for senstive skin or people living in hot, humid climates , and if applied well it gives a flawless look. I know Bare Minerals is the most well-known, best-selling brand, but I fancied a ´national product´ and decided to try Lilylolo. They have a huge range of foundations for the palest English rose skintone to a few tones for dark olive and black skin. A good idea if you´re buying online is to try their Ready Set Glow starter kits, they come in Light, Light Medium and Medium, and include a mini kabuki brush, three sample size foundations to try and a flawless silk finishing powder which is a lovely product to apply over your foundation to keep it in place and ´to minimise fine lines and imperfections´. 

Aqui en España con la clima del sur, me cansaba de usar bases de maquillaje en liquido por su textura pesada y grasienta.  Leí mucho sobre maquillajes minerales y pensé en probármelos  ¿Valen la pena? La verdad es que hay muchos ventajas de ponerse maquillaje de minerales- tiene duración larga, protección solar natural, no engrasa, no lleva parabenos, es ideal para lA piel sensible o gente que se vive en lugares calurosos, y si aplicado de buena manera da aspecto de una tez perfecto.  Se que Bare Minerals es la marca mas conocida del mundo maquillaje de minerales pero quería comprarme un ´producto nacional´ y por eso hizo una compra con LilyLolo, ademas no son tan caros. Tiene muchos tonos, del mas pálido para la tez rosa inglesa hasta muy moreno. Un buen idea es probar antes su set de Ready Set Glow que viene en tres tonos, claro, claro-medio, medio, y incluye un brocha de kubuki en mini, tres muestras de tonos diferentes, y un muestra de ´flawless silk finishing powder´, es es perfecto para echar después del base para fijar la maquillaje y ´ minimizar lineas finas y imperfecciones.´

The key is buffing, you need to blend in that powder with a good Kabuki brush. Swirl the brush in the powder, tap off any excess and start gently buffing in circular movements until you have the coverage you want- if done well it gives a lovely airbrushed-effect. I love it, I use it every day after moisturising. I have to be careful not to make it look cakey, building it up subtly, and buffing away. It actually feels light and like my skin is still breathing and being looked after. I highly recommend Lilylolo, the link is below. I have to try their blushers but I meanwhile I keep re-purchasing their foundation in ´Blondie´, it´s my perfect colour. Another nice thing to know is that they do global delivery!

Lo importante en usar maquillaje mineral es primero hidratar la cara bien, y aplicarlo con una buena brocha como el Kabuki en movimientos circulares hasta que tengas la cobertura deseada. Así la piel conseguirá un aspecto preciosa. Me encanta, lo uso cada día  con cuidado que no me lo pongo demasiado y que sigo aplicándolo con movimientos circulares con la brocha, si no que pueda dar un aspecto acartonado. Me siento que es ligero, que la piel y los poros respiran, y que me cuida la cara. Os recomiendo Lilylolo! El link esta debajo. Pronto tengo que probarme sus coloretes pero mientras sigo repitiendo con su base en ´Blondie´, me va perfecto. Tambien hacen envíos en todo Europa y el resto del mundo, es bueno saberlo!

Early Spring Wish List

Already thinking about spring? I suppose it´s a natural reaction after the festivities of Christmas are done and dusted. It seems ridiculous though, it´s snowing heavily back in the UK! Well, although there are plenty more hidden gems the sales are getting tiring now, I´m waiting eagerly for the new collections to hit the shops. DIY Sunday

I´m having a very lazy, peaceful Sunday, exactly what I needed after a busy week. It´s time to collect my thoughts, catch up on TV, drink soya lattes, use my new blueberry-packed Lush facemask and curl up with my Kindle. I´ve got a big batch of home-made mulled wine ready for tonight, it had been brewing away in the slow-cooker yesterday and has made the flat smell lovely, mmm! So anyway today I´m showing you a mini DIY project I like doing, painting those square Ikea mirrors you can buy for about a pound. I´ve seen lots of ideas on the internet- people stencilling them, sticking on dried flowers, there´s so much you could do with them. I think if you do something well they could make nice, personalised gifts. What I did was to use house paint, there are pots of it in my parent´s garage. So easy to do, just putting a square of newspaper over the mirror so it doesn´t get stained with paint. I used a strip of lighter colour at the bottom and then painted on some detail with little birds, I copied illustrations from the children´s book. Obviously you need a much finer paintbrush for this part. Not perfect, a bit uneven, but I think it looks cute, do you? 

Hoy me aprovecho de un domingo de descanso y paz, lo que me faltaba después de una semana cargada. Ahora puedo ver unas series, beber latte de soja, probar mi mascarilla de cara de Lush, y leer mi Kindle. Quiero enseñaros un pequeño proyecto DIY me gusta hacer, pintar en espejos de Ikea que se puede conseguir por euro y medio. He visto muchas ideas en Internet, la gente pega flores secas y los pintan a su manera, hay muchas posibilidades. Creo que si te salen bien, se puede usar como regalos para amigos o familiares incluso. Lo que he hecho era pintar usando pintura de paredes, hay muchos latas en el garaje de la casa de mis padres! Es tan fácil, pon un poco de papel de periódico en la parte del espejo para no mancharlo. He puesto un color mas claro en la parte de debajo y he pintado el detalle con pájaros. Se puede sacar la inspiración de donde sea, yo he usado las ilustraciones de un libro de niños. Obviamente se hace esta parte con una brocha mucho mas fina. No es perfecto, un poco desigualado, pero ¿bonito, si?

Review: Khiel´s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution

As you know by now I´m a big fan of Khiel´s. I like their packaging, the naturalness of the ingredients used in their products, the attention they give you in store, and the generosity of the samples you receive! After I was given my personalised daily skincare routine I was tempted by the Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution. Not that I have dark spots, but I have a sprinkling of very English freckles across my nose and cheeks that are barely noticeable until the sun comes out. Actually my freckles don´t really bother me, not since I was little, but the shop assistant told me this product would even out my skin tone, brighten my complexion and even prevent the formation of new pigment clusters, useful for me having such delicate, pale skin and living in a hot climate. I liked the sample and thought why not? I use it morning and night after cleansing and before moisturing. It´s clear and very light like a serum and fragrance free. It doesnt contain hyper sensitive pure vitamin C, but an activated C so sunlight cannot oxidise it and it is suitable to wear in the day time too as long as you wear a good SPF (of course!). Now after five months I have already used about 80% of the product, considering I use it twice a day it´s pretty great value. A bottle will last 6 months. When it is finished I plan to repurchase and try out Khiel´s Acai Damage-Repairing Serum too (apparently another little miracle product packed with antioxidants). Have you tried Khiel´s products? 

Ya sabeis que soy una gran fan de Khiel´s. Me encanta su marketing, los productos de buena calidad y alto contenido de ingredientes naturales, la atención que recibes cuando visita su tiendas, y la generosidad de sus muestras. Después de tener mi consulta sobre mi rutina de skincare, me tentó el Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution. No tengo manchas oscuras del sol pero si tengo pequitas muy inglesitas sobre la nariz y mejillas, apenas se nota al menos que salga el sol! La verdad, no me molesta no desde que era pequeña, pero la dependienta me dijo que este producto da aspecto mas luminoso, da un tono de piel mas uniforme  e incluso previene la formación de pigmentación por el sol. Me viene muy bien porque tengo la tez super blanquita y vivo en el clima caluroso del sur de España! Me gustó la muestra y pensé ¿por que no? El producto es transparente, muy ligero, como un serum, y no tiene olor. No contiene  Vitamina C pura que es super sensible, sino Activated C que no se oxigena en el sol, y eso significa que se puede llevar en el día debajo de un protector de sol, con SPF claro.  He estado usando por cinco meses y me queda un 20% de producto. Considerando que lo uso por la mañana y el de por la noche esta muy bien, una botella dura seis meses. Cuando se me acaba voy a re-comprarlo y probar también el Serum de Acai Damage-Repairing (tiene buena critica y esta llena de antioxidantes!). ¿Habeis probado algo de Khiel´s?

Boyfriend jeans

One of the things on my spring wishlist are boyfriend jeans. It´s about time I bought myself a pair, I´ve had my eye on them for a long time and they make a welcome change from skinny jeans. Although I haven´t seen many people wearing them on the street lots of bloggers have teamed them with heels and smarter items like blazers. I think these types of looks are ideal, mixing tomboy comfort with elegance and originality. I think an easy way of wearing them is also just with a simple white vest top. 

Unas de las cosas en mi ´wishlist´ de primavera son vaqueros boyfriend. Ya era hora que me comprara unos, porque los he querido desde hace un montón de tiempo. También es bueno variar y descansar los pitillos. Aunque no he visto muchas chicas llevarlos por la calle, muchas bloggeras los han llevado con tacones y prendas mas elegantes como blazers. Creo que esos tipos de looks son ideales, comodidad con originalidad. Pienso que es una forma fácil de llevarlos es con un top blanco muy simple.

I´m aware that I´m not being very consistent in my posts. Inkeeping with my inconsistency (!) I´m going to show you my latest sales buys. When I was in the UK over Christmas I only bought a necklace in Zara for the summer and some goodies from Lush which I´m delighted with. I had wanted to wait for the sales in Spain, and I´m glad I did because in the end I´ve done quite well! What have you picked up in the sales?

Soy consciente que no tengo un tema definido en mis posts, vario mucho. Pero bueno, sigo con mi rollo porque ahora os enseño mis compras de ropa en las rebajas. Cuando estuve en el Reino Unido estas navidades solo me he permitido comprar unas cositas, un collar de Zara para el verano y unos caprichos de Lush que estoy encantada! Quería esperar hasta las rebajas en España y me alegro que he hecho eso por que al final lo he hecho bastante bien! ¿Y tu que has comprado en las rebajas?

My MAC lipsticks

I keep going back to MAC when I want a new lipstick. I love the range, the different finishes and colours, the quality and the faint vanilla smell they have. At the moment I have seven in my collection, and they are mostly Lustres, which I find most wearable and glossy. I also like the Cremesheens, which are not at all drying. In the winter months when my skin is very pale I like wearing the darker shade, Hang Up, dabbing on  it for a deep berry stain rather than full on colour. And for the daytime or going to work I like Lovelorn, a sheer pink. The two slight disappointments have been Pink Nouveau as its a Satin and I find it a bit drying and have to wear a bit of lipgloss on top. The other is High Tea, it´s a natural beige that looks great with smokey eyes but the formula most be too creamy as it the stick has melted and looks a bit of mess in the tube now. Anyway for spring I fancy a few more, See Sheer, Hug Me and Ravishing. Watch this space! 

Cuando quiero un pintalabios nuevo, siempre tiro por MAC. Me encanta su colección  sus acabados y colores, la calidad buena y el sutil olor de vainilla que tiene. Del momento tengo siete labiales. la mayoría son Lustres, por que los encuentro mas suaves y ponibles. Tambien me gusta los Cremesheens por que no se secan los labios. En el invierno cuando mi piel as mas blanca me pongo mucho Hang Up, un color arándano oscuro. Y por el día o por ir al trabajo pongo Lovelorn, un rosa muy dulce. Hay dos decepciones en mi colección  son Pink Nouveau, un Satin que creo que seca mis labios un poco y por eso tengo que poner un gloss sobre ello. El otro es High Tea, aunque el color es un beige brillante que pega con ojos ahumados, el acabado al mejor es demasiado blando y se derrito en el tubo y esta hecho un desastre  Bueno por la primavera tengo fichado tres mas- See Sheer, Hug Me y Ravishing. ¡Este atento a este espacio!

Here´s a question- hire a make up artist for your big day and put all your trust in their expertise or calm your nerves and do it yourself? Call me crazy but I´m going for the DIY option. I love make up, experimenting with looks, and I even find the routine of putting it on in the morning very relaxing. Everyone knows on your wedding day you have to look your most beautiful. It´s quite a task to take on but I´m going to do lots of research and try out lots of  products before I decide what looks perfect. I think the most important thing is to look after your skin, drink loads of water, be well rested and glowing, my aim is to do this in the month leading up to the wedding. Easier said than done with all the preparations but I´m determined! A good base is essential, I once heard doing your make up is like putting paint on a blank canvas, that canvas has to be in good nick! I will keep using my favourite products, mostly Khiels, and I will most probably have a try of Chanel´s Soleil Identite which my friends uses and always look gorgeous and sun-kissed.

Una pregunta importante-¿usar una maquilladora profesional y poner tu confianza en el/ella o.... calmarte y hacerlo tu misma? Llámame loca pero voy a hacer la opcion DIY! Me encanta el maquillaje, experimentar con looks, incluso la rutina de pintarme la cara por las mañanas me relaja! Todo el mundo sabe que en su día de boda la novia quiere parecer mas bella que nunca. Es un gran trabajo conseguirlo sin ayuda pero voy a investigar mucho y probar nuevos productos. Creo que lo mas importante es cuidarse la piel y beber mucha agua para tener un aspecto radiante, y mi meta es hacer eso durante el mes antes de la boda. Aunque es mas fácil decirlo que hacerlo con todas las preparativos, estoy decidida! Una vez me dijeron que maquillarse la cara es como la pintura sobre un lienzo, y ese lienzo tiene que ser liso y en condiciones! Sigo con mi rutina  diaria de piel, la mayoría de mis productos son de Khiel´s, y probare Chanel´s Soleil Identite, lo que usa mi amiga quien siempre tiene una cara ligeramente bronceada.

I´m becoming a big fan of Lisa Elridge, a very pretty professional British make up artist whose video tutorials are on youtube. She gives lots of great advice, including the dos and don´t´s. Her video ´summer rose bridal look´ is brilliant, as its for brides getting married in hot countries who want long-lasting make up that won´t melt off or give you a shiny face! It could well be around 35 degrees here in September for my wedding with its outdoor ceremony so any tips on shine-control are welcome! What you do think- call in the experts or do your own make up?

Estoy haciendo fan de Lisa Elridge, una maquilladora professional britanica muy guapa cuyos videos estan en youtube. Ella da muchos consejos, incluso dice que son los errores tipicos. Su video ´summer rose bridal look´ es genial, es para novias que van a casarse en climas calorosas y que quieren maquillaje duradera! Como aqui me caso en Septiembre cuando se puede echar 35 grados, cualquier consejo para evitar una cara con demasiado brillos son bienvenidos! Andalucia

Andalucia is a gorgeous sun-soaked region in the south of Spain,  I feel lucky to live here. If you haven´t been it´s well worth a holiday, there´s almost a bit of everything, rustic countryside, flamenco fairs, both modern and moorish architecture, tiled patios, lots of geraniums and great tapas.

My favourite candles are the good quality ones in silver tins made from essential oils. Whenever I go back to the UK I try to stock up on Pintail and Lilyflame candles. They smell gorgeous and look really pretty dotted around the flat. 

Mis velas preferidas son los de buena calidad en latas plateados de aceites esenciales. Cuando voy al Reino Unido me compro unos cuantos de las marcas Pintail y Lilyflame para traer en maleta. Huelen divinos y están preciosos puesto por mi piso.

Review: Nars Deep Throat and Gaiety

I´m extra happy with two of my christmas presents this year- Nars Deep Throat blush and Gaiety. Yes, the names are a little bit disconcerting but the blushes are sleekly packaged, highly pigmented, and wonderful quality. I think they are worth paying more for, the colour lasts all day and the range is really pretty. Deep Throat is a natural, sophisticated peachy pink and so wearable. Gaiety is a brighter, colder toned, girlier colour which looks much more subtle on than when you see the bold block of colour in the case. The next on my list for spring are Angelika, a barbie pink, and Torrid, which looks like a warm-toned corral. 

Estoy muy contenta con dos de mis regalos de navidad de este año, los coloretes Nars Deep Throat y Gaiety.   Si, los nombres son un poco raros, pero los productos son elegantes, muy pigmentados, y de calidad excelente. Creo que aunque son caros lo valen, el color dura todo el día y la gama de colores son muy bonitos. Deep Throat es un color precioso rosa-melocotón y tan ´ponible´! Gaiety es mas vivo y femenino  se parece es mas sutil puesto. Los últimos en mi lista para la primavera son Angelika, un rosa chicle, y Torrid, que se parece a coral cálido.
